On the official blog post, Facebook says that "we think it's important that you are able to use encrypted chats and feel sage, so we want to keep you informed if anyone takes screenshots of your disappearing messages."
WhatsApp users have been clamouring for the screenshot detection and message responses features for quite some time. However, now that Facebook has made the functions available for Messenger, they'll soon be made available for WhatsApp as well.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg also shared a post with his wife Priscilla Chen, demonstrating the screenshot detection ability as well as other new capabilities coming to the messaging service. Mark's wife activated vanish mode as seen in a screenshot of a Messenger chat (which is also indicated through the 07:15 AM timestamp). Following that, a little message appears above the second last message, indicating that a screenshot has been taken. The prompt also displays Chen's name as she took the screenshot.
The ability to reply to messages is an Instagram-like feature that has been added to Messenger. Users will now be able to respond to Messenger DMs by swiping the message or just touching and holding it to select a reply. All of these additions will enhance the user experience on Facebook Messenger by providing more ways for people to connect and share their emotions.
